Zygocactus truncatus is an epiphytic cactus (meaning it grows on trees) with flattened, jointed stems hanging down in an umbrella-shape. Two-tipped bright carmine, scarlet or white flowers emerge from the ends of the stem in profusion in autumn and winter. Originating from Brazil, the ‘Christmas cactus’ is found in tropical and sub-tropical rainforests and successfully grown as houseplants in the northern hemisphere.
